Supporting technical teachers to develop embedded English, maths and digital skills into technical subject teaching

A range of T Level Professional Development (TLPD) opportunities are now available for booking. The aim of TLPD is to ensure further education and post-16 providers are T Level ready, and that technical teachers are supported to develop embedded English, maths and digital skills into their technical subject teaching.

Embedded English, maths and digital skills have been identified in the T Level technical education programmes as core competencies that will be assessed alongside technical skills. Consequently, technical teachers may need support with approaches for developing English, maths and digital literacies with learners.

TLPD is offered as a four-part series:

  • An introductory course, which introduces teachers to developing embedded maths, English and digital skills in the context of T Level programmes.
  • 3 specialist e-Learning modules that focus specifically upon developing embedded English, maths or digital skills for T Levels.
  • 3 specialist 1 day face-to-face sessions that focus specifically upon developing T level expertise in English, maths or digital skills.
  • 3 interactive webinars that focus specifically upon the practical application of learning undertaken during the introductory, e-Learning and English, maths or digital face-to-face sessions.

Each course builds upon the one before, helping technical teachers identify the core and specialist English, maths and digital literacies needed in their subject specialism, and recognise that in the workplace, these ‘techno-mathematical literacies’ are part of everyday working life. The overriding aim of each course is to support technical teachers to develop engaging and accessible strategies for developing embedded English, maths and digital literacies and promote the use and value of them for employment, learning and wider life.

During and following each course, technical teachers will be invited to engage with the ETF’s (2014) Professional Standards and encouraged to use them as they plan and reflect upon their training and development needs.

You can choose to host a course, which is a great opportunity to collaborate and network with other providers, or you may like to run an in-house course just for your own staff.  You’ll have the opportunity to work with one of our Professional Development Leads both before and after the course, and we’ll help you identify how you can address any issues your organisation may be facing.  To book please complete our course booking form

Fully subsidised and therefore there is no charge to ESFA-funded providers

The Government places a high priority on T Levels and is fully committed to help providers implement them. As part of this commitment ETF has been provided with grant funding to produce and deliver this important T Level Continuing Professional Development (CPD) offer. This means there is no charge for teaching/training practitioners and leaders from ESFA funded providers planning to deliver T Levels from 2020 and in the future.

However, whilst the offer is available to all those who meet this criteria, for face to face training there will be a period where initial priority and availability will be given to those who have been selected/will be selected to deliver T Levels in 2020 and 2021. All online training will be open to all.
