Vocational Revitaliser (VR) PLUS: Developing your practice (Maths and English)

We are currently running  Vocational Revitaliser (VR) PLUS: Developing your practice’(Maths and English) one-day courses across England. You can attend or host one of the following:

This can be for a mixed audience or contextualised to a specific vocational area, such as construction or early years. If you would like to explore the different options, contact us.

This course is subsidised by the Education and Training Foundation through their ‘Maths and English Pipeline‘.

Course aim

All vocational teachers and trainers, consciously or unconsciously, can support their learners’ English/ maths development. This is because English/ maths is required to carry out almost all vocational tasks and is the medium through which learners demonstrate their skills and knowledge.

Participants will build on knowledge and techniques developed on the introductory VR course or through prior experiences of developing embedded English/ maths programmes.

Learning outcomes

You will develop knowledge and confidence to:

  • Motivate learners by helping them to value English/ maths development and believe in their potential to achieve English/ maths qualifications where required.
  • Plan sequences of learning where English/ maths is developed alongside vocational competencies.
  • Support vocational learners’ English/ maths progression by adopting assessment for learning approaches.
  • Work collaboratively with English/ maths specialists (or access specialist resources/ support) to ensure learners experience coherent English/ maths development across programmes.
  • Engage in their own English/ maths development, and apply learning to their practice.

Course model

Vocational Revitaliser (VR) PLUS: Developing your practice are blended-learning programmes. Participants will undertake and/or access:

      • a short pre-session task;
      • a full day with other vocational practitioners, developing skills, techniques and confidence to support learners’ English and/or maths learning; and
      • online learning to develop their personal English and/or maths

Entry requirements

This course is suitable for vocational practitioners, with experience of teaching, assessing or supporting English or maths in the FE and skills sector. It is a progression from the one/half day ‘Vocational revitaliser: an introduction’.

We expect you to have completed the introductory course or be experienced in supporting English or maths in your vocational area. If you haven’t completed the introductory course complete the short task below to assess your readiness for the VR+.
